Published: April 7, 2026 Verified Reviewed by: Eric Stafford, Managing Editor, News 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor Supercab Long Term View exterior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver Introduction For the 2010 model year, Ford practically invented the street-legal desert racer with the original F-150 SVT Raptor. The truck’s reputation for extreme off-road capability took off, leading to expanded Raptor lineups across F-150 generations and later, the robust Bronco and Ranger variants. While the F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor share the same engineering DNA—wide stances, long-travel suspensions, and high-output twin-turbo V-6 engines—the Ranger Raptor offers superior value. Its strong showing in the performance mid-size segment earned it back-to-back 10Best awards, and the Car and Driver team is excited to put this small pickup, affectionately nicknamed the Michigan Miata, through its paces over 40,000 miles. View exterior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver The first generation of the Ranger Raptor was unavailable to American consumers, but Ford rectified this with the second generation, released for the 2024 model year. Think of it as a Bronco Raptor minus the 37-inch tires, convertible top, and removable doors—a significant saving of around $23,000. Additionally, the 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor’s base price of $58,965 undercuts rivals like the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, which starts above $66,000. Although the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is available for under $53,000, it comes standard with a 310-hp turbo four-cylinder engine, even in the more expensive ZR2 Bison variant. Ultimately, the Ranger Raptor already surpassed both the TRD Pro and ZR2 Bison in our off-road comparison. For Sale Near You See all results for new 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor for sale near 63606 We opted for Shelter Green Metallic, the premium color choice for this model year, priced at $395. It offers a classy look without being overly ostentatious. We decided against the racy rear body decals ($750) since most of the staff don’t fuel themselves with Monster Energy or sport tribal tattoos. We also stuck with the standard 17-inch wheels rather than the $1,495 forged beadlock-capable rollers, planning to test aftermarket wheels during the truck’s tenure. Following the addition of a spray-in bedliner ($525), dealer-installed keyless-entry keypad ($230), and a three-year SiriusXM satellite radio subscription ($300), our baby Raptor came in at a total of $60,415. That’s still over $20,000 less than the F-150 Raptor’s entry price. Plus, it has a higher likelihood of fitting in garages designed for lower-profile sedans. While the Ranger shares its 128.7-inch wheelbase and five-foot cargo bed with the standard Ford Ranger, its front and rear tracks are 3.5 inches wider to accommodate the standard 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires. However, because the Ranger’s boxy bodywork remains under 80 inches wide, it is not legally required to have the three central amber running lights featured on its larger, lane-devouring siblings. Do not mistake the Ranger for a lesser Raptor; it is a fully capable machine. Its steel bumpers anchor a fully boxed ladder frame, and comprehensive underbody armor shields critical components such as the electronically locking front and rear differentials. Its robust suspension is designed to handle rough treatment. The Ranger Raptor’s front wheels are supported by 2.5-inch Fox Live Valve adaptive dampers that work with longer forged aluminum control arms. The rear Fox shocks feature piggyback-style reservoirs that improve heat dissipation during intense off-road driving. Ford also replaced the standard Ranger’s rear leaf springs and Panhard rod with coil springs and a more sophisticated Watt’s linkage with trailing arms, which enhances roll stiffness. View interior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver Despite the added suspension stiffness, our initial track testing made it clear that the Raptor truly shines off-road. The Ranger’s blocky BFGoodrich tires achieved 0.68 g of lateral grip on the skidpad and required a substantial 223-foot stopping distance from 70 mph. However, these numbers only tell part of the story; the truck exhibits excellent daily-driving characteristics. Its impact-absorbing ride effortlessly handles Michigan’s numerous potholes. Ford also allows drivers to personalize the Raptor’s personality, enabling independent adjustments to damping force, steering effort, powertrain settings, and exhaust volume via controls on the sculpted steering wheel. The “R” mode provides quick access to a saved profile, and the prominent paddle shifters allow immediate control over the 10-speed automatic transmission—a feature surprisingly absent in some of the Raptor’s rivals. This mid-size Raptor is no slouch, matching the 450-hp F-150 Raptor’s zero-to-60-mph acceleration. During our initial test, the all-wheel-drive Ranger reached 60 mph in a brisk 5.2 seconds. However, the 405-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 felt less responsive during a 5-to-60-mph rolling start, clocking in at 5.8 seconds. The quarter-mile was completed in a respectable 13.9 seconds at 98 mph. Regardless of how delicately the driver accelerates, the baby Raptor is thirsty. The EPA estimates combined fuel economy at a disappointing 17 mpg, just one mpg better than the heavier V-6-powered F-150 Raptor. At least the Ranger Raptor met the government’s expectations on our 75-mph real-world fuel-economy test, with a previously tested model achieving a slightly better 18 mpg on the highway. View interior photos Marc Urbano | Car and Driver Our long-term 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor arrived at Car and Driver’s Ann Arbor headquarters just before the spring season officially began. It has already accumulated over 4,000 miles, and we are only two months in. Aside from some mixed opinions regarding its gruff exhaust note, the staff generally approves of Ford’s junior Raptor pickup. The Ranger’s optimal size makes it more practical for daily use than our current long-term Ram 1500, and its cargo bed proves useful for quick, messy tasks. Beyond school drop-offs and hauling mulch, we have plenty of adventures planned for our new Raptor. Ford’s “Assault School” is on our radar, and we intend to purchase the Ford Performance tuner that will boost the baby Raptor’s power output to virtually match its bigger sibling. Furthermore, with the Silver Lake Sand Dunes just a few hours away, we are eager to take this truck off the beaten path.
