Full Video : #Cops #BailBonds #FugitiveCaught part 2 | Giovany Witter We Adopted a Baby Baja Truck! Meet Our Long-Term Ford Ranger Raptor Published: April 7, 2026 VerifiedReviewed by: Eric Stafford, Managing Editor, News Save Article 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor Supercab Long-Term View exterior photos Marc Urbano|Car and Driver Introduction The essential formula for a Ford Raptor—widened bodywork, long-travel suspension, and a punchy twin-turbo V-6—has been refined for years, dating back to the original F-150 Raptor’s launch in 2010. Those initial press photos of the SVT Raptor taking flight looked straight out of a Dukes of Hazzard episode. The Blue Oval’s street-legal desert racer quickly became a phenomenon, spawning additional Raptor versions across multiple F-150 generations and eventually giving birth to similarly robust variants of the Bronco and the Ranger. The F-150 Raptor and the Ranger Raptor share the same fundamental DNA, including widened body panels, long-travel suspension systems, and high-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 engines, but the Ranger Raptor offers a more accessible entry point into the Raptor family. Its exceptional value among its peers earned it back-to-back 10Best awards, and our staff is enthusiastic about spending 40,000 miles with the mid-size pickup truck we’ve affectionately nicknamed the “Michigan Miata.” view exterior photos Marc Urbano|Car and Driver The first-generation Ranger Raptor was initially unavailable in the U.S. market, but Ford made a strategic decision to bring the second-generation model to American buyers, debuting for the 2024 model year. Think of this truck as a Bronco Raptor without the 37-inch tires, removable roof, and easy-to-remove doors. If you can forgo these admittedly desirable features, you’ll save approximately $23,000. The 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor’s base price of $58,965 also undercuts direct competitors such as the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, which starts well above $66,000. While a new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 can be purchased for under $53,000, you’ll be limited to a 310-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, even in the significantly more expensive ZR2 Bison trim. Furthermore, the Ranger Raptor already outperformed both the TRD Pro and ZR2 Bison in our off-road competition. For Sale Near You See all results for new 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor for sale near 63606 We opted for the best available color for this model year: Shelter Green Metallic, a $395 option that strikes a balance between sophistication and subtlety. We bypassed the aggressive rear-body decals (a $750 charge), as none of us are avid Monster Energy drink consumers or have tribal tattoos. We also opted for the standard 17-inch wheels rather than the $1,495 forged beadlock-capable wheels, as we plan to test a set of aftermarket wheels during the truck’s time with us. After selecting the spray-in bed liner ($525), the dealer-installed keyless-entry keypad ($230), and a three-year subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio ($300), our baby Raptor’s total came to $60,415. That’s still more than $20,000 less than the entry fee for the F-150 Raptor. Moreover, it is more likely to fit into garages designed for lower-profile cars. While the Raptor shares its 128.7-inch wheelbase and five-foot cargo bed with the standard Ford Ranger, its front and rear tracks are 3.5 inches wider to accommodate the standard 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires. However, because the Ranger’s pronounced bodywork does not exceed 80 inches in width, it is not legally required to feature three amber running lights like its larger, lane-swallowing counterparts. Do not mistake the Ranger for a compromised Raptor; it is a fully capable machine. Its steel bumpers cap a fully boxed ladder frame, and extensive underbody armor shields critical components like the electronically locking front and rear differentials. The heavily reinforced suspension is also engineered to withstand abuse. The Ranger Raptor’s front wheels are supported by 2.5-inch Fox Live Valve adaptive dampers, which are paired with longer forged aluminum control arms. The rear Fox dampers feature piggyback-style reservoirs that provide better heat dissipation when the solid rear axle is pushed hard. Ford also replaced the standard Ranger’s rear leaf springs and Panhard rod with coil springs and a more sophisticated Watt’s linkage with trailing arms, which enhance the truck’s roll stability. view interior photos Marc Urbano|Car and Driver Despite this added stiffness, our initial track testing clearly indicates that the Raptor’s peak performance is achieved off-road. The Ranger’s blocky BFG tires achieved 0.68 g of lateral grip on our skidpad and required a long 223-foot distance to stop from 70 mph. However, these figures do not accurately reflect the truck’s enjoyable daily driving experience. Its impact-absorbing ride allows us to navigate Michigan’s numerous potholes effortlessly. Ford also enables drivers to personalize the Raptor’s personality, allowing independent adjustments to damping force, steering effort, powertrain response, and exhaust volume through buttons located on the contoured steering wheel. The “R” mode allows for quick access to a saved profile, and the prominent paddle shifters provide instant control of the 10-speed automatic transmission, a feature surprisingly absent in the Ranger Raptor’s competitors. This mid-size Raptor is undoubtedly powerful, matching the 450-hp F-150 Raptor in the 0-to-60 mph sprint. During our initial test, the all-wheel-drive Ranger reached 60 mph in a swift 5.2 seconds, although its 405-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 felt less responsive during a 5-to-60 mph rolling start (5.8 seconds). The quarter-mile was completed in a respectable 13.9 seconds at 98 mph. No matter how gently you drive it, the baby Raptor is thirsty. The EPA estimates combined fuel economy at a bleak 17 mpg, only one mile per gallon better than the heavier V-6-powered F-150 Raptor. At least the Ranger Raptor met the government’s expectations during our 75-mph real-world fuel economy test, with a previously tested model achieving a slightly less disheartening 18 mpg on the highway. view interior photos Marc Urbano|Car and Driver Our long-term 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor arrived at Car and Driver’s Ann Arbor headquarters just before the arrival of spring. We are only two months into ownership, and the truck has already accumulated over 4,000 miles. Aside from some mixed opinions regarding its gruff exhaust note, the staff appears to be very pleased with Ford’s compact Raptor pickup. The Ranger’s balanced proportions make it a more desirable choice for daily use than our current long-term Ram 1500, and its cargo bed proves useful for quick chores. There is much more planned for our new Raptor than just sitting in school pick-up lines and transporting mulch. Ford’s “Assault School” is on our radar, and we intend to purchase the Ford Performance tuner that will elevate the baby Raptor’s power output to essentially match that of its bigger brother. Additionally, with the Silver Lake Sand Dunes only a few hours away, we are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to get this truck airborne.
