Full Video : #Cops #ShoplifterCaught #RetailTheft part 2 Tested: 2026 Toyota Tundra TRD Performance Gets Loud Quick Published: April 2, 2026 Verified Reviewed by David Gluckman Contributing Editor 2026 toyota tundra trd pro crewmaxView exterior photos Michael Simari|Car and Driver Toyota isn’t making a big deal about it, but they are offering a little extra power for their twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6. A new engine tune combines with intake and exhaust modifications to squeeze out an extra 29 horsepower from the Tundra’s available hybrid powertrain, bringing the total output to 466 horsepower. The peak torque stays the same at 583 pound-feet. The hybrid setup comes standard on the TRD Pro and other higher-end trims. This package is also available on non-hybrid Tundras, where it adds 32 horsepower, and on the hybrid-only Sequoia SUV. We previously tested a Sequoia with these upgrades, and now it’s the Tundra’s turn. Subtle Visuals With all the noise the 2026 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro already makes about being a TRD model, it’s easy to miss the small TRD Performance badge on the lower left side of the TRD PRO tailgate. Besides some loud side graphics (which we’ll skip), there’s not much else to advertise this package on the outside, but that badge could be bigger. Open the hood, and you’ll see two TRD-branded airboxes, each connected to its own turbo. At the back, a TRD-style single tip replaces the standard Pro’s dual round outlets. The shape of this new piece looks inspired by the Tundra grille’s trapezoid-like geometry. Like the rest of the truck, it’s chunky. More on the Tundra 2026 Toyota Tundra Details, Pricing, and Specs 2026 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Details, Pricing, and Specs Spied! Tundra TRD Hammer with Raptor-Like Upgrades One last clue is hidden behind the fuel flap—a label saying “PREMIUM FUEL ONLY” with the TRD Performance logo—reminding you that you paid extra for this truck so you can spend more money at the pump. Thankfully, the modest upgrades don’t seem to hurt fuel economy. We averaged 15 mpg during our time with the TRD pickup, which is consistent with previous Tundra experiences. Compared to an unmodified Tundra TRD Pro, the TRD Performance truck was 0.1 second quicker to 60 mph, the same difference as with the Sequoia, finishing in 5.6 seconds. Bigger improvements come in the rolling-start test, where this truck went from 5 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, 0.3 second faster than stock. Its 14.2-second quarter-mile run at 97 mph is quicker and faster, again by 0.3 second and 5 mph. If you’re looking for even more, you might need to explore aftermarket solutions that void the warranty to get a bigger power boost, as there are several options available. HIGHS: Quicker than stock in every test, no fuel-economy penalty, a visually subtle upgrade. With all that acceleration, the exhaust note can be, well, tiring. The performance cat-back system is only an improvement if your goal is loudness. At full throttle, it’s the same 80 decibels as the standard TRD Pro, but the drone on the highway is pretty annoying and gets old fast. At 70 mph, the performance exhaust puts 70 decibels into the cabin, three more than the standard setup. Compared to the exhaust that comes on the TRD Performance-modified Sequoia—where only the center exhaust pipe is replaced, going from 65 to 70 decibels—it’s more noticeable but less pleasant. And even with the exhaust upgrade, Toyota still pipes in fake engine noise that can’t be turned off. view exterior photos Michael Simari|Car and Driver A catch-22: You might not want to floor it often, which means not getting the most out of the tune. LOWS: Aftermarket tuners get more out of this V-6, makes loud louder, will people know it’s special? The tune doesn’t fix the occasional lumpy shifts of the Tundra’s transmission. At partial throttle, the unit is constantly shifting through its 10 gears, and when you floor it, the gear changes come fast and hard, but not in a good way. This is one area where domestic half-ton trucks have a clear advantage. Michael Simari|Car and Driver view interior Photos Michael Simari|Car and Driver Chairs with Flair Although not specific to TRD Performance, the cool IsoDynamic suspended seats that come standard on the Tacoma TRD Pro are now available on the Tundra for 2026 and were included in this test truck. While they take up already limited space in the Taco’s back seat, the Tundra CrewMax has more room, and our rear-seat passengers didn’t complain—they just asked why there are bike pumps on the back of the front seats. The TRD Performance package is available on select Tundra trims and configurations for an extra $2999. It’s a more reasonable $2299 for the Sequoia, which makes less noise. However, if you simply want your TRD Pro to be louder, this is the modification package for you. VERDICT: More power is nice, but the Sequoia with this package improves performance without the noise. view exterior photos Michael Simari|Car and Driver ➡️ Skip the lot.
