Future EVs: The Vehicles You’ll Soon Buy
These electric cars aren’t available yet but range from concepts to pre-production models, with some potentially never reaching the market.
By Caleb Miller Updated: Apr 8, 2026
EVs are the dominant force in the automotive landscape, and manufacturers are continually expanding their electric lineups. From established automakers to new players like Lucid, Slate, and Rivian, everyone is pushing forward with electric vehicle (EV) development. This compilation tracks every electric vehicle from concept to production that isn’t yet for sale.
Alfa Romeo Giulia EV (Expected: 2028)

Alfa Romeo confirmed that its gasoline-powered Giulia will be reborn with an electric powertrain. The base model is expected to deliver around 350 horsepower, while the Veloce variant should produce close to 800 horsepower. The range-topping Giulia will retain the historic Quadrifoglio name and aim for over 1,000 horsepower. Based on the Stellantis Group’s STLA Large platform, the new Giulia will support 800-volt, ultra-fast charging and boast a range of up to 500 miles. Recent rumors suggest the Giulia will also be offered with combustion engines, similar to the Dodge Charger.

Before the next-generation Giulia arrives, Alfa Romeo plans to introduce a new Stelvio. Like the upcoming sedan, the Stelvio will use the STLA Large platform and come in both electric and hybrid versions. However, the electric SUV launch in the U.S. has been delayed until 2027.
Alpine EVs (Expected: 2030)
Alpine A390 Alpine
Alpine, Renault’s French subsidiary known for lightweight sports cars, intends to enter the U.S. market later this decade. The strategy was initially led by the compact A390, a sleek fastback crossover with a 470-hp tri-motor setup, but plans have since changed. The U.S. launch of Alpine’s EVs was originally set for 2027, but the Trump administration’s introduction of high tariffs on imported vehicles has forced Alpine to delay its schedule. If Alpine enters the U.S., the company now plans to do so with the upcoming A110 electric sports car and a larger SUV.

Audi TT EV (Expected: 2027)
Audi Concept C Audi
Audi plans to launch a new electric sports car in 2027, previewed by the radical Concept C. Audi states the new sports car, similar in size to a Porsche 911, will sit between the TT and R8 in performance and introduce a new design language. Inside, the Concept C demonstrates Audi’s renewed focus on physical controls, even featuring a screen that can retract completely when not in use. Details on the powertrain are sparse, but the Concept C was designed for rear-wheel drive, and we expect it to share a platform with the upcoming Porsche 718 EV. Audi has confirmed that the production car will also offer a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant, and the RWD concept weighs 3,726 pounds.
Bentley EV SUV (Expected: 2027)
Bentley EXP 15 Concept Bentley
Bentley’s first electric vehicle will be unveiled in 2026, described by the luxury automaker as a “luxury urban SUV” that will slot below the gasoline-powered Bentayga. Though Bentley calls the EV “compact,” it will maintain imposing proportions, measuring up to 197 inches in length. The Bentely EV’s styling is previewed by the EXP 15 concept, featuring a bold, squared-off front end, a long hood, and a decadent cabin. The electric SUV may share the platform with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV, with sales expected to begin in early 2027. Based on trademark filings, we believe it will be named the Barnato, after one of Bentley’s racers and executives from the 1920s. Plans for additional Bentley EVs have been postponed until at least 2030.
BMW i3 (Expected: Late 2026)
2027 BMW i3 BMW
The BMW i3 arrives as an electric sibling to the long-running 3-Series, adopting BMW’s new design language and riding on the same Neue Klasse platform that underpins the iX3 SUV. An 800-volt architecture supports 400-kW fast charging, while the 109-kWh battery is projected to deliver an estimated 440 miles of range. The i3 will launch initially with one trim, the 50 xDrive, providing 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. It also features a radical new interior design with a thin display along the base of the windshield and a trapezoidal central touchscreen. U.S. sales are slated to begin before the end of 2026.
BMW iM3 (Expected: 2027)
BMW iM3 BMW
The upcoming BMW i3 will also spawn the first all-electric M3. The iM3, as we expect it to be called, will ride on BMW’s next-generation EV platform featuring an 800-volt electrical architecture. A quad-motor powertrain, with two electric motors per axle, should generate well over 600 horsepower and ensure the iM3 is suitably rapid. The front motors can also be decoupled, and while BMW states this is to increase highway range, we’re already dreaming of rear-wheel drive slides. BMW is also incorporating faux gearshifts and engine noises for added engagement, sampling everything from the E92 M3’s V-8 to the E64 M6’s 5.0-liter V-10.

BMW iX3 (Expected: Summer 2026)
2026 BMW iX3 BMW
The BMW iX3 arrives as an electric counterpart to the brand’s popular X3 SUV and debuts an unconventional new design, featuring a slimmer interpretation of the iconic “kidney” grille that references classics like the 2002. The iX3 will launch in the U.S. with a dual-motor variant producing 463 hp, enabling a 0–62 mph time of 4.9 seconds. A 109-kWh battery is expected to provide nearly 400 miles of range and charge at up to 400 kilowatts. Inside, the iX3 introduces a new dashboard setup where a thin dark strip along the bottom of the windshield functions as a 43-inch, full-width head-up display replacing the conventional gauge cluster. A 17.9-inch touchscreen handles all main infotainment functions. Sales will start in the summer of 2026.
BMW iX4 (Expected: 2027)

BMW is developing an electric replacement for the X4, the sleeker alternative to the X3 that features a sloping roofline. Expected to be named the iX4, the new “coupe-SUV” will come exclusively with electric powertrains and be closely related to the iX3 launching in 2026. Like the iX3, the iX4 is also expected to spawn an M-branded performance variant. Production of the iX4 is rumored to begin in November 2026, with U.S. sales likely kicking off in 2027.
BMW iX5 (Expected: 2027)
2024 BMW X5 BMW
BMW continues to electrify its lineup with the iX5, an electric counterpart to the mid-size X5 SUV. Instead of using the Neue Klasse platform underpinning the iX3, the iX5 will utilize an adaptation of BMW’s CLAR platform—currently found under the iX electric SUV—allowing an updated gasoline-powered X5 to coexist with its electric sibling. The iX5 will feature a next-generation battery with improved energy density. The electric SUV should be revealed in late 2026 and go on sale in the U.S. in 2027. BMW is also planning a hydrogen fuel-cell variant—co-developed with Toyota—that may be available before the end of the decade.
Caterham Project V (Expected: 2027)
Caterham Project V Caterham
Caterham, known for lightweight sports cars, plans to expand its lineup with an electric coupe launching in 2027. Caterham aims to enter the U.S. market with the Project V, as it’s currently known, packing a 268-hp electric motor from Yamaha on the rear axle. The Project V will also feature a unique split battery pack, with a roughly 27 kWh battery situated between the occupants’ legs and another under the rear seat. Caterham targets a 0-62 mph time of under 4.5
