From legacy manufacturers to innovative startups, automakers are accelerating their electric vehicle (EV) pipelines. This article identifies the most anticipated electric cars and SUVs slated for release between now and 2029. Alfa Romeo Giulia EV (Expected: 2028) Alfa Romeo plans a full electrification of the historic Giulia sedan. Building on their STLA Large platform, the new electric Giulia is expected to offer an aggressive lineup, with base models providing around 350 horsepower and top-tier Quadrifoglio versions potentially exceeding 1000 horsepower. The Veloce trim is rumored to feature an impressive power output of approximately 800 horsepower. Utilizing an 800-volt architecture, it promises ultra-fast charging capabilities and a potential driving range of up to 500 miles. Recent industry whispers suggest a dual-powertrain strategy, potentially offering both electric and combustion-engine options, similar to the Dodge Charger. Alfa Romeo Stelvio EV (Expected: 2027) Before the next-generation Giulia reaches production, Alfa Romeo is preparing to launch an all-electric version of its popular Stelvio SUV. This model will share the same STLA Large platform as the Giulia, ensuring consistency in design and technology. However, the arrival of the electric Stelvio has reportedly been delayed, and it is not anticipated to reach the United States until 2027. Alpine EVs (Expected: 2030) Alpine, the performance-focused French subsidiary of Renault, is charting a course to enter the U.S. market by the end of the decade. Initially, the company planned to spearhead its American debut with the compact A390 fastback crossover, which promised a 470-hp tri-motor powertrain. However, the U.S. entry has been postponed from the initial 2027 target, largely attributed to the introduction of high tariffs on imported vehicles by the Trump administration. Should Alpine proceed with its U.S. market entry, it is now expected to do so with the upcoming A110 electric sports car and a larger SUV model. Audi TT EV (Expected: 2027) Audi plans to introduce a new electric sports car in 2027, as previewed by the innovative Concept C. This new sports car is roughly equivalent in size to the Porsche 911 and is positioned to fit between the performance capabilities of the TT and R8 models. It also serves as the showcase for Audi’s fresh design language. Inside the concept, Audi is embracing a return to physical controls, even featuring a screen that completely retracts when not in use. While powertrain details are currently scarce, the Concept C was conceived as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle and is expected to share a platform with the upcoming Porsche 718 EV. Audi has confirmed that the production version will also offer a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration, and the RWD concept weighs in at 3,726 pounds. Bentley EV SUV (Expected: 2027) Bentley’s first electric vehicle is slated for reveal in 2026. The luxury automaker describes it as a “luxury urban SUV” that will sit below the gas-powered Bentayga in the lineup. Although Bentley labels the EV as “compact,” the new model is expected to retain imposing proportions, measuring up to 197 inches in length. The Bentley EV’s styling is previewed by the EXP 15 concept car, which features a bold, squared-off front end, a long hood, and a decadent cabin. The electric SUV may share the platform with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV, and sales are expected to begin in early 2027. Based on trademark filings, there is speculation the vehicle will be named the Barnato, in honor of one of Bentley’s racers and executives from the 1920s. Plans for additional Bentley EVs have been deferred until at least 2030. BMW i3 (Expected: Late 2026) The BMW i3 is scheduled to arrive as the electric counterpart to the long-running BMW 3-Series. This model represents a departure from previous designs, wearing BMW’s new design language and utilizing the Neue Klasse platform that also underpins the iX3 SUV. Its 800-volt architecture supports 400-kW fast-charging, and the 109-kWh battery is expected to provide an estimated 440 miles of range. The i3 will initially launch with one trim, the 50 xDrive, generating 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque sent to all four wheels. The interior features a radical new layout, including a thin display running along the base of the windshield and a trapezoidal central touchscreen. Sales of the i3 are set to commence before the end of 2026. BMW iM3 (Expected: 2027) The upcoming BMW i3 will also serve as the basis for the first all-electric M3. As it is expected to be named the iM3, the car will ride on BMW’s next-generation EV platform, featuring an 800-volt electrical architecture. A quad-motor powertrain, with two electric motors on each axle, is expected to produce well over 600 horsepower, ensuring the iM3’s performance is appropriately spirited. The front motors can be decoupled; while BMW claims this is to increase highway range, performance enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the ability to drift. BMW is also incorporating simulated gearshifts and engine noises to enhance driver engagement, sampling everything from the E92 M3’s V-8 to the E64 M6’s 5.0-liter V-10. BMW iX3 (Expected: Summer 2026) The BMW iX3 will debut in the summer of 2026 as an electric equivalent to the brand’s popular X3 SUV. This model introduces an unconventional new design language, featuring a more refined version of the iconic “kidney” grille that references classics like the 2002. The U.S. version will feature a dual-motor variant generating 463 hp, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. A 109-kWh battery is anticipated to deliver close to 400 miles of range and supports charging at speeds of up to 400 kW. Inside, the iX3 debuts a new dashboard configuration where a thin, darkened strip along the lower windshield acts as a 43-inch, full-width head-up display, effectively replacing the traditional instrument cluster. A 17.9-inch touchscreen will manage all primary infotainment functions. Sales are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026. BMW iX4 (Expected: 2027) BMW is developing an electric replacement for the X4, the sleeker alternative to the X3 featuring a sloping roofline. Expected to be named the iX4, this new “coupe-SUV” will be offered exclusively with electric powertrains and will be closely related to the iX3, which launches in 2026. Like the iX3, the iX4 is also expected to have an M-branded performance variant. Production of the iX4 is rumored to begin in November 2026, and U.S. sales should commence in 2027. BMW iX5 (Expected: 2027) BMW is continuing to electrify its lineup with the iX5, an electric counterpart to the mid-size X5 SUV. Instead of utilizing the Neue Klasse platform that underpins the iX3, the iX5 will use an adapted version of BMW’s CLAR platform—currently found beneath the iX electric SUV. This architecture will allow an updated gas-powered X5 to coexist alongside its electric sibling. The iX5 will feature a next-generation battery with improved energy density. The electric SUV is expected to be unveiled in late 2026 and go on sale in the U.S. in 2027. BMW is also planning a version with a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain—co-developed with Toyota—which may become a reality before the end of the decade. Caterham Project V (Expected: 2027) Caterham, renowned for its minimalist sports cars, plans to expand its portfolio with an electric coupe that is scheduled to enter production in 2027. Caterham aims to enter the U.S. market with the Project V, as it is currently known, which will feature a 268-hp electric motor sourced from Yamaha driving the rear axle. The Project V will also feature a unique split battery pack: a roughly 27-kWh battery located between the occupants’ legs and another positioned beneath the rear seats. Caterham targets a 0-to-62 mph time of under 4.5 seconds and a projected price tag around $135,000. Ferrari Luce (Expected: 2026) Ferrari is preparing its first fully electric car, which will debut in early 2026. Spy shots reveal a low-riding yet crossover-like profile. Ferrari has confirmed that the model will have four doors, a 116.5-inch wheelbase (slightly shorter than the Purosangue), and will weigh just over 5,100 pounds. The Ferrari Luce is expected to be
