Full Video : Bravest Police K9 Takedowns Caught on Camera - Good Boys at Work part2 #cops #copsoftiktok #police | Giovany Witter The Michigan Miata: We Picked Up a Long-Term Baby Raptor We’re about to spend 40,000 miles learning what the Ford Ranger Raptor is truly about, and we’re bringing it back to its roots on the trails. Published: April 7, 2026 Reviewed by: Eric Stafford, Managing Editor, News A long-term 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor sits in a parking lot, showing off its Shelter Green Metallic paint. Marc Urbano|Car and Driver Introduction Ford’s Raptor formula has remained remarkably consistent since its 2010 debut—a street-legal desert racer that roared onto the scene. The original SVT Raptor looked like something ripped from a Dukes of Hazzard episode, but it evolved from an experimental project into a massive hit, spawning generations of the F-150 Raptor and eventually inspiring the Bronco and Ranger models. The F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor share the same core DNA: wider tracks, long-travel suspensions, and powerful twin-turbo V-6 engines. Yet, the Ranger Raptor offers a much more accessible entry point into that exclusive club. Its value proposition has earned it back-to-back 10Best awards, and we’re thrilled to put 40,000 miles on this pickup, affectionately nicknamed the “Michigan Miata.” A long-term 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor is shown from the side. Marc Urbano|Car and Driver Understanding the Mid-Size Raptor The first-generation Ranger Raptor was unavailable in the U.S., but Ford smartly rectified that with the second generation, introduced for the 2024 model year. Think of it as a Bronco Raptor minus the 37-inch tires, removable roof, and easily detachable doors. If you can forgo those premium features, you save roughly $23,000. Furthermore, the 2026 Ranger Raptor starts at $58,965, undercutting direct competitors like the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, which begins above $66,000. While a new Chevy Colorado ZR2 is available for under $53,000, you are limited to a 310-hp turbo four-cylinder engine, even in the higher-end ZR2 Bison. It’s worth noting that the Ranger Raptor already outperformed both the TRD Pro and the ZR2 Bison in our off-road comparisons. What This Means for You If you’re eyeing a premium off-road pickup, the Ranger Raptor presents a compelling financial case. Instead of overspending on a larger truck, you get similar capability at a lower price point. For those looking for everyday drivability and weekend trail prowess without breaking the bank, this is a strong contender. It fills a gap between entry-level off-road trims and flagship models. Should You Buy, Wait, or Rent/Invest? The current market offers incentives for buyers interested in the Ranger Raptor. With increased competition, you may find dealer incentives or lease specials that make this truck even more appealing. If you’re a long-term owner who plans to keep the vehicle beyond the warranty period, research aftermarket performance parts and suspension upgrades to extend its life and capability. Best Financial Strategies Right Now (2026) Leasing vs. Buying: Given the Ranger Raptor’s depreciation rate and the high MSRP, leasing might be a smart option for those who want the latest tech without committing to long-term ownership. Insurance Costs: Get insurance quotes before purchasing. The Raptor’s performance and price can significantly impact your monthly premiums. Financing: Secure pre-approved financing from a credit union or lender before visiting the dealership. This puts you in a stronger negotiating position. Cost Breakdown / Pricing Impact (if applicable) We chose the Shelter Green Metallic paint ($395) for its classy appearance. We skipped the optional rear decals ($750), as they didn’t suit our office culture. We also opted for the standard 17-inch wheels instead of the forged beadlock-capable rollers ($1495), intending to swap them out later. After adding the spray-in bed liner ($525), keyless-entry keypad ($230), and a three-year SiriusXM subscription ($300), the total came to $60,415. This is still substantially cheaper than the F-150 Raptor’s entry price. Mistakes to Avoid That Could Cost You Money Over-accessorizing: Resist the urge to buy every optional add-on. The Ranger Raptor is capable out of the box. Focus on what you actually need, not just what’s shiny. Ignoring Insurance: Failure to compare insurance rates could lead to paying hundreds of dollars more each month. Forgoing Pre-Approval: Showing up at the dealership without financing lined up leaves you vulnerable to high interest rates. For Sale Near You See all results for new 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor for sale near 63606 A long-term 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor is shown from the side in the parking lot. Marc Urbano|Car and Driver A Practical Pickup Beyond its lower price compared to its larger brother, the Ranger Raptor’s compact footprint makes maneuvering in crowded parking lots and on tight trails significantly easier. It also fits in garages designed for lower-profile sedans. While the Raptor shares its 128.7-inch wheelbase and five-foot cargo bed with the regular Ford Ranger, its front and rear tracks are 3.5 inches wider to accommodate the standard 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires. Fortunately, the Ranger’s bulging bodywork remains under 80 inches wide, so it doesn’t require the three amber running lights found on its larger siblings. Not a Cheapened Version Don’t mistake the Ranger for a compromised Raptor—it’s a fully capable off-road machine. Its steel bumpers protect a fully boxed ladder frame, and robust underbody armor safeguards critical components, including the electronically locking front and rear differentials. The suspension has also been heavily fortified to withstand punishment. The Ranger Raptor’s front wheels feature 2.5-inch Fox Live Valve adaptive dampers that work with longer forged aluminum control arms. In the rear, the Fox shocks have piggyback-style reservoirs to dissipate heat during demanding off-road use. Ford also replaced the standard Ranger’s rear leaf springs and Panhard rod with coil springs and a more sophisticated Watt’s linkage with trailing arms, significantly improving the truck’s roll stiffness. Inside the Baby Raptor A long-term 2026 Ford Ranger Raptor interior is shown. Marc Urbano|Car and Driver Our initial track test confirmed that the Raptor’s peak performance truly shines off-road. The BFGoodrich tires achieved 0.68 g of lateral grip on the skidpad and required a lengthy 223-foot stop from 70 mph. However, these metrics don’t capture the truck’s delightful daily-driving characteristics. Its impact-absorbing ride handles Michigan’s potholes with ease. Ford also allows extensive personalization, letting you adjust damping force, steering effort, powertrain response, and exhaust volume independently using buttons on the contoured steering wheel. The “R” mode provides quick access to your saved profile, and the prominent paddle shifters allow for instant control of the 10-speed automatic transmission—a feature many competitors are (amazingly) missing. Power and Performance This mid-size Raptor doesn’t hold back, matching the F-150 Raptor’s 450 hp in the 0–60 mph sprint. During our first test, the all-wheel-drive Ranger reached 60 mph in a brisk 5.2 seconds. However, the 405-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 felt less responsive during a rolling 5–60 mph start (5.8 seconds). The quarter-mile was completed in a respectable 13.9 seconds at 98 mph. No matter how carefully you drive, the baby Raptor demands fuel. The EPA rates combined fuel economy at a disappointing 17 mpg, just one mpg better than the heavier, V-6-powered F-150 Raptor. At least the Ranger Raptor met government expectations during our 75-mph real-world fuel-economy test, where a previously tested model achieved a slightly less disheartening 18 mpg highway. Best Financial Strategies Right Now (2026) Leasing vs. Buying: Given the Ranger Raptor’s depreciation rate and high MSRP, leasing might be a smart option for those who want the latest tech without committing long-term.
