Future Electric Vehicles: The Next Generation of EVs Arriving in 2026 and Beyond
The transition to electric mobility is accelerating faster than ever, with automakers across the spectrum—from established luxury brands to rising disruptors—unveiling ambitious plans for their next wave of zero-emission vehicles. In 2026 alone, the electric vehicle landscape will see significant expansion, featuring a mix of bold new concepts, production-ready models, and innovative technologies aimed at pushing performance and range boundaries. While some of these electric cars are destined to hit showroom floors soon, a few remain in development, with their future market presence uncertain.
Here is a comprehensive overview of upcoming electric vehicles currently in the pipeline for 2026 and beyond.
2026 and Future Electric Vehicle Previews
This guide covers a wide range of upcoming electric vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, sports cars, trucks, and luxury vans, many of which are slated for release in 2026. We look at how these new EVs fit into manufacturers’ broader electrification strategies, the expected powertrain options, charging technologies, and their potential impact on the market.
Alfa Romeo Giulia EV (Expected: 2028)
Alfa Romeo plans to launch a fully electric version of its iconic Giulia sedan, replacing the outgoing combustion-engine model. This EV will be built on the Stellantis Group’s STLA Large platform, supporting 800-volt, ultra-rapid charging and a target range of up to 500 miles. The performance specifications are expected to be impressive, with the base model reportedly producing around 350 horsepower, while the Veloce variant will push closer to 800 horsepower. The flagship Giulia Quadrifoglio is anticipated to deliver over 1,000 horsepower. Recent reports suggest the new Giulia might also be offered with combustion engines, mirroring the strategy for the Dodge Charger.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio EV (Expected: 2027)
Before the next-generation Giulia arrives, Alfa Romeo is set to introduce the Stelvio, a new electric SUV built on the STLA Large platform. Similar to its sedan counterpart, the Stelvio will feature both electric and hybrid powertrain options. However, the introduction of the electric SUV in the United States has been delayed and is not expected until 2027.
Alpine EVs (Expected: 2030)
Alpine, the French sports car subsidiary of Renault, intends to enter the U.S. market later this decade. The initial plan involved the compact A390 fastback crossover with a 470-hp tri-motor powertrain, but plans have shifted. The U.S. launch of Alpine’s electric vehicles was originally slated for 2027, but high tariffs on imported cars imposed by the Trump administration have caused Alpine to postpone its U.S. debut. If Alpine does proceed with its U.S. market entry, the company now indicates it will do so with the upcoming A110 electric sports car and a larger SUV.

Audi TT EV (Expected: 2027)
Audi plans to launch a new electric sports car in 2027, previewed by the radical Concept C. Audi states that the new sports car, roughly the size of a Porsche 911, will sit between the TT and R8 in performance, marking a new design direction for the brand. Inside, the Concept C showcases a return to physical controls, including a screen that can retract completely when not in use. Details on the powertrain are still sparse, but the Concept C was designed as rear-wheel drive, and we expect it to share a platform with the upcoming Porsche 718 EV. Audi has confirmed that the production car will also offer a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant, and the RWD concept reportedly weighs 3,726 pounds.
Bentley EV SUV (Expected: 2027)
Bentley is scheduled to reveal its first electric vehicle in 2026. The luxury automaker describes the model as a “luxury urban SUV” that will be positioned below the gasoline-powered Bentayga in Bentley’s lineup. Although referred to as “compact,” the new model will still feature substantial proportions, measuring up to 197 inches in length. A concept car known as the EXP 15 previews the Bentley EV’s styling, with a bold, squared-off front end, a long hood, and a luxurious cabin. The electric SUV may utilize the same platform as the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV, and sales are expected to begin in early 2027. Based on trademark filings, we believe it will be called the Barnato, named after one of Bentley’s racers and executives from the 1920s. Plans for additional Bentley EVs have been pushed back until at least 2030.
BMW i3 (Expected: Late 2026)
The BMW i3 is set to arrive as an electric counterpart to the long-running BMW 3-Series, sporting BMW’s new design language and riding on the Neue Klasse platform that underpins the iX3 SUV. An 800-volt architecture supports 400-kW fast-charging, and the 109-kWh battery is said to provide an estimated 440 miles of range. The i3 will initially launch with one trim, the 50 xDrive, delivering 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. It also features a radical new interior design with a thin display along the base of the windshield and a trapezoidal central touchscreen. Sales of the i3 are scheduled to begin before the end of 2026.
BMW iM3 (Expected: 2027)
The upcoming BMW i3 will also serve as the basis for the first all-electric M3. Expected to be called the iM3, the performance sedan will ride on BMW’s next-generation EV platform featuring an 800-volt electrical architecture. A quad-motor powertrain, with two electric motors on each axle, is anticipated to deliver well over 600 horsepower, ensuring the iM3 offers appropriate performance. The front motors can be decoupled, which BMW claims is to improve highway range, but this also opens the door for engaging driving dynamics. BMW is also planning simulated gearshifts and engine noises to enhance driver engagement, experimenting with sounds ranging from the E92 M3’s V-8 to the E64 M6’s 5.0-liter V-10.

BMW iX3 (Expected: Summer 2026)
The BMW iX3 arrives as an electric counterpart to the brand’s popular X3 SUV and introduces an unorthodox new design language, featuring a thinner interpretation of the iconic kidney grille that recalls classics like the 2002. The iX3 will come to the U.S. with a dual-motor variant producing 463 hp, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. A 109-kWh battery is expected to provide nearly 400 miles of range and support charging speeds of up to 400 kilowatts. Inside, the iX3 debuts a new dashboard setup where a thin darkened strip along the base of the windshield functions as a 43-inch, full-width head-up display, replacing the traditional gauge cluster. A 17.9-inch touchscreen handles primary infotainment duties. Sales are scheduled to start in the summer of 2026.
BMW iX4 (Expected: 2027)
BMW is developing an electric replacement for the X4, the sleeker alternative to the X3 featuring a sloping roofline. Expected to be named the iX4, this new “coupe-SUV” will come exclusively with electric powertrains and will be closely related to the iX3 going on sale in 2026. Like the iX3, the iX4 is also expected to spawn an M-branded performance variant. Production of the iX4 is rumored to begin in November 2026, with U.S. sales slated to start in 2027.
BMW iX5 (Expected: 2027)
BMW will continue to electrify its lineup with the iX5, an electric counterpart to the mid-size X5 SUV. Instead of utilizing the Neue Klasse platform underpinning the iX3, the iX5 will adopt an adaptation of BMW’s CLAR platform—currently used beneath the iX electric SUV—allowing an updated gasoline-powered X5 to coexist with its electric sibling. The iX5 will feature a next-generation battery with enhanced energy density. The electric SUV is expected to be unveiled in late 2026 and go on sale in the U.S. in 2027. BMW is also planning a version with a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain, co-developed with Toyota, that may become available before the end of the decade.
Caterham Project V (Expected: 2027)
Known for its lightweight sports cars, Caterham plans to expand its lineup with an electric coupe entering production in 2027. Caterham aims to enter the U.S. market with the Project V, which will feature a 268-hp electric motor sourced from Yamaha on the rear axle
